Types of dismissals in cricket

1. Bowled : If a bowling delivery by the bowler manages to pass through the batsman and hits the wicket throwing the bails off it, the batsman is considered bowled out.

2. Leg-Before Wicket (lbw) : This happens when the ball hits the pads of the batsman as he tries to play a shot. If the umpire thinks that the ball was going to hit the wicket had it not hit the batsmen's pad, the umpire, after an appeal from the bowling team, might declare the batsman out.

3. Caught : If a hit by the batsman is caught by any of the players of the opposing team before the ball touches the ground then the batsman is considered caught out.

4. Run Out : During an attempt to score a run, if one of the batsmen is out of crease, and any one of the fielders is able to hit the wicket with the ball hard enough to dislocate the bails, then it is a case of a run out.

5. Stumped : A batsman is considered stumped out when while trying to play a ball he goes out of his batting crease and misses it, and the wicket-keeper, while the batsman is out of his crease, dislodges the bails of the wicket.

6. Hit wicket : If the batsman upsets one or both the bails with his bat, body, hands, clothing, or equipment while playing a ball, or while he is trying to score a run he is declared hit wicket out.

7. Hitting the ball twice: If the batsman after playing the ball once tries to play it again, he is considered out. He may play the ball second time only to stop the ball from hitting the wicket after he has played it once.

8. Obstruct the field : A batsman is out when he deliberately tries to block a fielder's way.

9. Handled the ball : If the batsman deliberately tries to touch the ball with his hand to protect his wicket he is considered out.

10. Timed out : If the next batsman does not arrive the vacant within 3 minutes of the previous one being dismissed, he is declared out by the umpire.
